Thrift Store Adventures Save Big Bucks and Count as Retail Therapy, Too

Goodwill retail store

Does shopping at thrift stores count as retail therapy? 🙂 Heck, yes! Where else can you can save money and have an adventure at the same time?

Make every trip extra exciting by taking along a friend, splitting up to shop and try clothes on, then meeting later to share a laugh while showing each other:

1) The weirdest non-clothing item in the store

2) The most atrocious clothing item in the store

3) An article of clothing that you think your friend would look fantastic wearing

and, of course,

4) The wonderful treasures you plan to buy

And there’s no reason you can’t add some laughter to the trip by searching for items 1 and 2 above when shopping solo, either. You can even whip out your phone and take a photo. I’ve cracked up over quite a few unbelievable items in local thrift stores! My next blog post features one of the weirdest pieces of clothing I’ve ever seen.

Sign on Goodwill store door that announces "Goodwill Hunting"contestIsn’t this “Goodwill Hunting” sign clever?

A clerk told me recently that local stores were holding scavenger hunts for customers to locate something partially pictured on this sign. The contest was held at that store the day before and the item people were seeking was a framed photo signed by actor Bill Murray, part owner of the Charleston RiverDogs minor league team. Prizes were free tickets to a game.

Sounded like fun. Wish I’d been there!

I love this idea! I’ve never had the best luck at thrift stores, but I like the concept of making a game out of it. What a great inexpensive way to have some fun with a friend! Thanks for linking up at The Blogger’s Digest!

The biggest thrift store in town has toys that kids love to look at, but the Goodwills usually don’t have many. You could make a scavenger hunt list, and say they have to find a pair of purple shoes, a container, a mirror, a CD, etc. — and have them check the items off the list. And you could change the list a little each time you go.

Where I grew up, thrift stores aren’t that great. But I’ve recently moved into a more rural part of the state and I am finding So! Much! Stuff! that I can use or re-purpose. I love it 🙂

I generally hate thrift store shopping, because I have no patience, and it seems to require a lot of patience. But you just made it sound fun. I think I might see some “Goodwill Hunting” in my future 🙂

It can be tedious to look through a lot of clothes, especially when they’re not sorted by size, but anything you can do to make it entertaining helps!

To be honest, I do most of my shopping at thrift stores. Partly to save moolah, partly because you can find unique clothing there.
