Have been fascinated by reading various blog posts over the years where people write about choosing their “one word” for the year such as enjoy, improve, flow, create or relax.
It’s basically their mantra for 365 days, and a goal to focus on that year. It’s a word that provides guidance and gives them strength.
Many times, it replaces New Year’s resolutions.
Intriguing idea!
The blog One Word 365 even provides a list of potential words.
I’d never done it before and decided to try it in 2015.
When it came down to it, though, one word won’t do it for me. I need a phrase.
Nearly chose “Let it be” after I saw it painted on a little wooden sign in a funky craft store in Myrtle Beach. The words spoke to me — probably because of my weird tendency to volunteer to improve things, especially at work, where the prevailing thought is “don’t even make eye contact when someone asks for volunteers.” My work buddies have advised me on a number of occasions to repeat “Just say no” in my head. 🙂
But today I decided to focus on two words — “get to” — as in, I get to go to work (because I’m lucky enough to have a good job), get to clean my house (because I’m lucky enough to have a house), get to buy gas for my car (because I’m lucky enough to have a car — and money to buy gas). You get the idea.
It think it’ll be a great chance to add more grateful thoughts to my life.
Have you ever picked a word or phrase for the year? What was it? How did it work out?

Yep, my word, although I didn’t blog about it yet, is “delete” – delete negative people, thoughts, words – delete anything in my life that wasn’t serving me well. Get to is a good one! Speaking of which, I’ve got to get to it today 🙂 Have a great day 🙂

I love your word! The first year I did the one word thing, I got two words too. They were break bread. Your 2015 will sure to be a year where your heart and soul experience great appreciation every day for all those things you ‘get to.’ Even the not so much fun things will become a time of blessing for you. Enjoy

This is excellent. I think I’ve read about this “one word” idea either here or on another blog. I think I would also choose a short phrase: overcome obstacles OR make changes. They are actually related and both focused on the goal of ridding my life of negatives and filling it with more positives!

I think it’s great that you chose two words! There are no rules. 🙂
My one word for 2015 is ‘wisdom’, as in I want to follow God’s wisdom for my life, rather than my own.
I love your two words as I think that gratitude and thankfulness is a key component to contentment, happiness, and joy.
Happy New Year to you and yours!

Happy new year to you, too! I love your reminder that “there are no rules!!”
my word for 2015 is pray!
Like that one!
Oh! Your words for the year totally resonate with me, as they’re along the lines of my own choice of “Shift” for 2015. I’m aiming to shift my attitude and actions about the things that I tend to approach from a negative perspective, and “get to” is the perfect way to reframe these things. Thank you for sharing!
