Saving Money: It’s Great, but Where Do We Draw the Line?

SAVING MONEY: It's Great, but Where Do We Draw the Line?

Saving money is wonderful.

I don’t mind buying (and thoroughly washing) clothes and other items at garage sales and thrift stores so I can go on a cruise (or two) every year.

Buying gently used items is a great way to try new styles and experiment with different household decor — and if you don’t like it, you can just donate it back without breaking the bank.

Looking for bargains is well worth the time and effort to me.

However, I think everyone has the point they won’t go beyond to save a buck.

For example, I refuse to:

1) Drive all over town to find a gas station with the best price — and save two cents a gallon. Just won’t do it.

2) Wash and re-use baggies. Read that trick years ago in an article written by one of the most popular money-saving evangelists ever. Finally tried it once and said “never again.” That is WAY too much trouble to save a penny.

3) Buy underwear at a thrift store or garage sale. (See Things Not to Sell at a Yard Sale.)

Doing these things would make me feel “cheap” instead of “frugal” (and there is a difference!)

Where do you draw the line? What things are you unwilling to do to save money?

I think there is a difference for sure. If it’s going to cramp my style and cause me stress it’s not worth it for me to bother. I do use coupons and look for the best deals and that’s enough for me lol.
