My most recent thrift store treasures include a lot of fun casual tops and a cute shower curtain. My favorite clothing brand from the local Belks department store is Ruby Road — because the clothes are colorful and cute, but not too (“look at me”) wild.
The clothing line is high quality and fashionable, but it’s not cheap. Retails prices for tops run about $54, and even on sale, most of the tops cost at least $30.
That’s more than I want to spend… especially for leisure wear tops that I normally wouldn’t wear to work.
So when I find Ruby Road items in my size and in great condition in a thrift store, it’s a real treat.
This jeweled Ruby Road top would generally cost about $54, but I got it for $3.49. That’s a savings of more than $50 under retail price.
I bought the next three tops – two of them Ruby Road and one a Liz Claiborne denim print jacket to wear with jeans – for a total of $6 — about $130 below retail.
This three-quarter-length sleeved Ruby Road top was $3.49 at the local Goodwill, too, resulting in another $50 savings.
My last super savings item was a high-quality Pottery Barn Kids pink striped cloth shower curtain (apparently I lean toward very youthful looking bathroom accessories!) for $2.49. I estimate it would cost at least $20+ new.
This whole batch of thrift store treasures cost $15.50 and resulted in a savings of $250!
And that’s why thrift store shopping is so much fun!

Hi Diane….you made out like a bandit on this shopping trip. Such cute tops!! Thrift shops up here in Pa are terrible not at all like down South. I miss being down there so much and especially book club!!
That’s too bad you don’t have good thrift stores there!! We’re hanging in with the book club, except we decided to read 1984 this past month and I think I was the only person who read it (and I made myself do it!) Not a fun book.
