Alexa’s Cool New Feature: Get Fitbit Stats on Amazon Echo

Alexa's Cool New Feature: Get Fitbit Stats on Amazon Echo

Have an Amazon Echo? Have a Fitbit fitness tracker?

Now you can set them up to “talk” to each other.

One of the most recent tricks Alexa (the Siri-like speaker on the Amazon Echo digital assistant) can do is give you info about health and fitness stats stored in your Fitbit.

No need to pause and scroll through your stats by repetitively pressing the Fitbit button or pull out your smartphone to check the Fitbit app for data (depending which model you have) — simply pass within range of your Echo and speak.

Request that Alexa check Fitbit for the number of steps you walked that day, or ask Alexa to check Fitbit to see how you slept last night.

Just be sure to start each request with, “Alexa, ask Fitbit…”

If the info is on your Fitbit, Alexa can tell you about it — including how much water you drank, number of calories burned, number of sets of stairs climbed, resting heart rate (if you have the Force HR), how many miles you’ve walked, how many hours you slept the previous night, what time you fell asleep, and more.

Alexa not only answers your questions immediately, but she throws in some helpful tips — in a kind, motherly way. For example, if you’ve walked 6,000 steps, she’ll let you know that you only need 4,000 steps more to meet your daily 10,000 step goal. (No need to tax your brain with unnecessary math calculations!)

  • Log in to your Fitbit app on your smartphone. Click on the menu icon in the upper left corner, and select Skills.
  • Scroll down to the Fitbit section and click Enable.
  • Log in to the Fitbit app and click Allow to let the Fitbit access your data. And you’re done!

Then just ask Alexa for the info you need and keep on  walking…
